Sergeant Conis served with Company L, 31st Infantry Regiment, 7th Infantry Division as platoon sergeant. He was killed after being struck by shell fragments during a night patrol.

He had been stationed in Korea for 13 months, nine of which were spent as a prison guard at the Koje prisoner of war camp.

Before the war, he was employed by the City Laundry and served in the Monticello Guard.

He is buried in Monticello Memorial Park, Albemarle County, Virginia.
