Master Sergeant Baker served in World War II with the 104th Infantry Division in Europe. He was wounded in action in Germany on Armistice Day in 1944. During the Korean War, he served with E Company, 2nd Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division.

He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
