Seaman First Class Hancock served aboard the USS YMS-71 when it hit a mine near Brunei, Borneo and exploded. S1C Hancock’s body was never recovered.

Before the war, he was employed by the Virginia Hardwood Lumber Company, Bland County, Virginia.

He is memorialized on the Tablets of the Missing in the Manila American Cemetery, Philippines.
