Great Books on War – Part II
In these extraordinary times, people are looking for distractions, for a way to spend their time. For many, this includes a way to put the challenges of today into the proper perspective. Books are a tremendous resource for all these intentions. Books inform, they entertain, they provide an escape.
A very positive side-effect of the recent pandemic and the restrictions it has brought is the rediscovery of the perfect quarantine companion: a good book.
At the Virginia War Memorial, we often receive inquiries about the “best books” about American Military History and the wars that have punctuated it. And while any such list is based on personal interest and preference, we do our best to provide titles that are known to inform, entertain, and inspire. Knowing that many people are looking for that next good book to read, or possibly preparing a summer reading list, The Virginia War Memorial’s Director, Clay Mountcastle, has produced a video series, “Great Books On War” to assist book-seekers. In this series, Clay offers some favorite titles in Military History based on his nearly 20 years of studying, teaching, and writing on the subject.
