Virginia’s Executive Mansion is the oldest continuously occupied Governor’s dwelling in the United States.

Join Education Logistics Manager, Kyndall Drumheller, as she speaks with Deputy Butler and Mansion Historian, Martin Townes, about the Mansion’s rich history and legacy.

Townes’ family has been serving Virginia’s governors for over 40 years, as he is a part of the 3rd generation to serve.

In addition to his duties at the Executive Mansion, Townes serves on the Virginia Board of Historic Resources.

Townes holds a degree in Anthropology from Virginia Commonwealth University, and he was also a member of the Virginia Army National Guard (12B Combat Engineer).
