The American flag, the Star-Spangled Banner, or Old Glory…whatever name you chose, the flag has had a varied history that has changed as
often as the states themselves.
As we all celebrate Independence Day, we invite you to join former University of Richmond professor and Virginia War Memorial docent, Dr. Dean Decker as he discusses the American flag, its evolution, and its rich history.

Speaking of American flags, have you visited our “Hill of Heroes” Flag display? The 12,000 American Flags placed on the hillside of the Memorial represent the nearly 12,000 Virginians killed in action from WWII through today. The flags will remain up until July 7th.
