ONLINE – Meet the Artist: Rich Davis

Join the conversation between Virginia War Memorial Director Dr. Clay Mountcastle and retired Navy Captain and Virginia native Rich Davis. Davis’s photography show, “Painting with Light,” will be on display in our Veterans Art Gallery through Artober. This exhibit shares his unique point of view and how various photographic lighting changes alter an image’s perspective.

Clay will interview Davis about his military background, artistic process, and the inspiration for his work.

“I bought my first DSLR [camera] about 12 years ago,” says Davis. “I fumbled about for a year, shooting on automatic, before a couple of professional photographer friends taught me how to shoot in manual mode. Then I fell in love. I dabbled with infrared for about 6 years or so when a friend gave me an old converted camera. I’ve been doing more infrared photography since a few years before I retired [from the Navy], but it is now the main focus (pun intended) of my photography.”

The Veterans Art Gallery provides a unique space for veteran artists to share their work, and find inspiration in others with shared experiences and backgrounds.
