Hill of Heroes Flag Installation
The Virginia War Memorial will once again transform into a powerful display of remembrance as more than 12,000 American flags are installed across its hillside. The Hill of Heroes
The flags are placed to honor and remember the nearly 12,000 Virginia men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in military service from World War II to present day, and whose names are inscribed on the Memorial’s Shrine of Memory.
Community members are invited to take part in this meaningful tribute by volunteering on Friday, June 27. Volunteers should arrive by 8:00 AM for a brief opening ceremony and safety overview at 8:15 AM. Flag placement will follow and continue until every flag is set.
This event takes place rain or shine. Volunteers are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes, apply sunscreen, and bring gloves if possible.
If you are interested in volunteering or have any questions, please contact Ben King, Operations Director. at Benjamin.King@dvs.virginia.gov.
