Private First Class Burton served with B Company, 193rd Glider Infantry Regiment, 17th Airborne Division. Before the war, he was employed by the Civilian Conservation Corps. He is buried in Olive Branch Baptist Church cemetery, Blackridge, Virginia.

Served aboard the USS Cythera PY-26; S1C Burton’s ship was torpedoed by German submarine U-402. He is memorialized on the East Coast Memorial, Manhattan, New York where his name is inscribed on the pylons of the missing.

Sergeant Melvin Burton served with A Company, 10th Engineer Combat Battalion. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.

served aboard the USS Turner DD-648; He trained at the Navy radio school in Charleston, S.C. and then went to sea, serving on two other ships before transferring to the USS Turner (DD-648) in April 1943. He is buried in Highland Cemetery, Norton, Wise Co., Va.

First Lieutenant Burton is buried in Browns Chapel Baptist Church Cemetery, Pacolet Mills, South Carolina.
