PFC Rankin served as a light weapons infantryman in A Company, 4th Battalion, 503rd Infantry, 1732d Airborne Brigade. He died from a gunshot wound received in hostile ground action.

Major Ransom served with the 83rd Network Operations Squadron, Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. He was killed by an Afghan military trainee. He was a 2001 graduate of Virginia Military Institute. He is buried in First Baptist Church Cemetery, Midlothian, Virginia.

CPL Rapp served with the Quartermaster Corps. He graduated from Western High School in Washington, D.C. and attended the American Telephone & Telegraph Company business school. He enlisted in the Army in November 1942. He is buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
