Major Dan Thompson, U.S. Army
A Special Forces Green Beret, Dan served with Studies and Operations Group (SOG) a Top Secret, Joint Unconventional Task Force during the Vietnam War. SOG conducted covert operations, reconnaissance, prisoner snatch, wiretaps, and rescued downed pilots along the Ho Chi Minh Trail. Dan served as a Hatchet Force (HF) Platoon Leader and Recon Team (RT) leader, One-Zero, of RT Rhode Island. During his second tour, he flew right seat in a Cessna 0-2. as Covey Rider. In that role, he inserted RTs into Laos. Dan lives with wife Mary in Richmond Virginia. They take great delight in their five children and thirteen grandchildren. Dan, a prolific writer, was a student in the inaugural Mighty Pen Project class taught by David L. Robbins in 2015.
