Oral History Project
Every veteran has a story. Every story is important.
The Virginia War Memorial is seeking veterans to share their service stories. Every story has value, no matter how long you served, where you served, or when you served. Help us preserve these stories for future generations.
We can’t tell your story without you.
For more than two decades, the Virginia War Memorial has collected veteran oral histories. These interviews have been collected in a variety of formats. One of our featured objectives at the Virginia War Memorial Foundation is to get these stories digitized, transcribed, and shared with the public. Thanks to support from the Alfred I. duPont Foundation and Virginia Humanities, more than 1,300 hours of oral histories have been digitized. Our next step is to complete transcriptions of all interviews and make them available for public use on this site. Until then, if you would like to access our oral history catalogue, please contact Sylvia Marshall at sylvia.marshall@dvs.virginia.gov to make an appointment in the USS Birmingham Research Library.
