Private Motley served with the 557th Railhead Company. On April 28, 1944, he was participating in Operation Tiger, several amphibious exercises in preparation for D-Day, when his LST was struck by a German torpedo.
Before the war, he was employed as a truck driver.
He is buried in Normandy American Cemetery, France.
