Private First Class Annis served with Company D, 134th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division.

Before the war, Merrill was employed by Fleming Brothers in Pocomoke, Maryland.  He enlisted in the Army before the United States entered the war.  He was a heavy machine gun operator for the 134th which provided security along the supply chain route.  Annis was was seriously wounded on July 30, 1944 in France and he returned to his unit almost three months later before he was killed in action in Belgium on March 22, 1945.

Private First Class Annis is buried in Parksley Cemetery, Accomack County, VA.
