Staff Sergeant Harrell served with the 764th Bomb Squadron, 461st Bomb Group, Heavy. SSG Harrell was on his 48th mission flying as a left waist gunner on B24 “Lazy Lady” #42-95383. The plane was hit by enemy fire and SSG Harrell was badly wounded and died when the plane crashed near Mistelbach, Austria.

Before the war, he attended Carson High School and worked for Pewac Oil Corporation as a truck driver.
