Sergeant First Class Thompson served with E Company, 2nd Battalion, 27th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division.

He attended George Wythe Junior High School and entered the service in 1945. He received an honorable discharge and worked at Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, then reenlisted in 1948.

His older brother, Harry Pleasant Thompson, was killed in Germany in World War II.

He is buried in Hampton National Cemetery.
