Seaman Second Class Eller served aboard the USS PC-1603, a submarine chaser and minesweeper. On May 26, 1945, PC-1603 was struck by two kamikaze planes. Fifteen sailors were wounded from burns and three lost their lives.

His name is etched in the Courts of the Missing, Honolulu Memorial, Honolulu, Hawaii.
