INTERNSHIPS

The Virginia War Memorial offers several education, research, archival, and curatorial internship opportunities for college students and recent graduates throughout the year. Please read the position descriptions below to find out more about our current internships and to apply.

Qualified applicants for all positions will have or be pursuing a degree in History, Education, Museum Studies, or other related topics indicating an interest in American Military History. Successful applicants will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, be well organized, and work effectively independently and on a small team. Interns must be able to work remotely when required. Spring 2021 interns will receive $1000 for 100 hours of work.

Education Department Internship (paid) – Spring 2021

The Virginia War Memorial Education Department seeks a qualified candidate for the paid position of Education Intern. This individual will assist with the development and execution of a wide variety of educational programs, with emphasis on digital lessons and materials for students, teachers, and the public.

Archival Department Internship (paid) – Spring 2021

The Virginia War Memorial seeks a qualified candidate for the paid position of Archives Intern. Emphasis during Spring 2021 will be placed on the ongoing Oral History Project, and focus will be primarily on contacting potential oral history subjects, interviewing Veterans, transcribing interviews, and maintaining the Oral History database.

Curatorial Department Internship (paid) – Spring 2021

The Virginia War Memorial seeks a qualified candidate for the paid position of Curatorial Intern. Emphasis during Spring 2021 will be placed on assisting the Curator in developing both written and digital material for new exhibits. They will also be expected to assist with new donations research, provenance, and assessing both incoming and prior artifact and archival donations.
