Staff Sergeant Richmond served with the 825th Bombardment Squadron, 484th Bombardment Group, 15th Air Force as a gunner on a B-24 Liberator. He participated in bombing attacks on Germany, Austria, Hungry, France and Northern Italy. While on a bombing raid on Vienna, he was severely wounded by flay before he bailed out over Yugoslavia.
His name is etched on the Tablets of the Missing, Florence American Cemetery, Italy.
