Private Belote served with Headquarters Company, 115th Infantry Regiment, 29th Infantry Division.
Before the war, James attended high school for four years and he worked with Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company as a lineman in Norfolk, Virginia where he met his fiancé and they got married in June 1943. He enlisted in Richmond, Virginia, and he was sent overseas in January 1944 before being killed in action in France.
Private Belote was interred in Mount Holly Cemetery, Onancock, Virginia.
