Sergeant Major Blankenbecler served with the 1st Batallion 44th Air Defense, Artillery Regiment, 69th Air Defense Artillery Brigade, Fort Hood, Texas. He was killed in a convoy hit by an improvised explosive device and rocket propelled grenades.
He attended Groveton High School where he played quarterback for the football team.
He is buried in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii.
