Running Apart to Honor Together

Presented by

Thank you for being a part of this year’s virtual race!

We were so grateful to all who supported and participated in this year’s virtual race. While the structure of the race was different because of COVID, the goal—to remember those who have given their lives in service—remained the same. Together, you helped make the week leading up to Veterans Day special.

Check back here or JOIN OUR EMAIL NEWSLETTER to stay up-to-date on 5K registration and news.

All participants will receive a mask instead of a medal, a commemorative TGA5K race tee, and a Virginia War Memorial hat.

Will awards be given to winners?

With much thanks to our generous sponsors, awards will be given to the top three male and female runners.

How are we showing our appreciation for our service personnel?

All participants will receive a Race-in-Honor bib, sponsored by Richmond’s VFW Post 6364. You can write the name of a service person on the bib for whom you are running. We are strongly encouraging all participants to share their photos with us on social media or email them to us at, so we can show how we are “honoring together” this November.

Are we offering Memorial Flags for purchase this year?

One of the special features of our in-person race is the placement of American Flags at the start/finish line to honor veterans. In past years, those flags have been sponsored by supporters who choose a serviceperson’s name to recognize.

This year, because we will not be together at one unified start/finish line, we are not offering flag sponsorships, although you can make a gift in honor of a veteran on our race sign up page.

To make sure all participants have an opportunity to honor veterans, we are providing all registrants with a race bib, sponsored by the VFW Chapter 6364 of Richmond. On your bib, you will have the opportunity to display the name of someone you are running to honor. We encourage all to wear your race bibs with pride and send us your pictures of you and your “Quaran-Team” proudly wearing them on race day.

Is there a kids fun run this year?

This year, due to the virtual nature of this race, we are not having a kids fun run nor offering a “BedHead” runner package. We hope to bring both of these features back once we can resume hosting the race in-person.

Can I Volunteer?

We do not have race-day volunteers this year, because the race is virtual. But, if you are interested in helping to stuff race packets, please contact Kerrie Arcand at

Does this race support any charities?

This race is presented through the Virginia War Memorial Foundation, the non-profit partner of the Virginia War Memorial. All proceeds raised support the Foundation mission “to honor veterans, preserve history, educate youth, and inspire patriotism in all.”

I have some great photos of my Quaran-Team from race day. How do I best share them with the Virginia War Memorial?

We would love to see and share any photos you have of your QuaranTeam “running apart to honor together!” Here are some quick and easy ways to do it:

  • Use our race-day hashtags on social media:  #TGA5K #vawarmemorial #runningaparttohonortogether
