School Field Trips
The Memorial provides a meaningful interactive SOL based program to complement your social science classroom curriculum.
SOL Program and Tour:
As you plan your school year, please keep in mind that the VWM is Virginia's way of honoring and remembering all those who have fought for freedom. The 90-minute program entitled "See Freedom Speak" will take students through the Paul and Phyllis Galanti Education Center and out onto the grounds. Dedicated and knowledgeable docents will lead the tours. In cases where there are large numbers of students, it will be necessary to divide them into groups or 25-30 students. Our maximum number of students at one time is 150. We do have indoor and outdoor spaces for students to eat their bag lunches.
During the 2017-18 academic school year, the Memorial is pleased to offer grant funding to assist with transportation needs and substitute teachers for schools planning a field trip. Each qualifying school is eligible for up to $250 per visit, not to exceed two visits per academic school year. Applications are due as soon as possible but no later than 30 days before the scheduled field trip. Click HERE to access the application. Send the completed application to Kyndall Drumheller, Volunteer Support and Library Services - firstname.lastname@example.org
Please complete the School Field Trip Reservation form at least three weeks in advance. During April and May, we see the most visitors, so securing your date as soon as possible is encouraged. Pre-visit materials along with a confirmation email will be sent to the teacher making the reservation. Bus parking is located in our bus loop with access from 2nd Street.
